A very pleasant warm balmy outdoor night party was held on Sat 29th November at the home of Gordon and Lee Thallon at Wamuran near Caboolture. Many thanks to them for hosting this year’s club event and what a session it was! The set up was in Gordon’s large shed, fully decked out with a brilliant collection of prints, posters and wall hangings of various favourite subjects.
The club crowd of about fifty turned up and began some serious socialising with the children running amok having the best time.
We were joined by a special Studebaker family who were in Australia on holidays from Montana USA – Connie & David Baird with Shane, Nathan and Teressa with whom everybody very much enjoyed meeting and chatting. They had noticed the details of the party on the club’s website, made inquiries and came along. This is the sort of social expansion that makes a website worthwhile.
We saw some good old Studebaker resourcefulness when a faulty barbeque cooker was quickly and efficiently replaced by a borrowed substitute. Hardly noticed the delay. Then we just ate, drank and talked all night, with the exception of the more agile ones who enjoyed some happy form of gymnastics carrying live screaming packages around the paddock.
The Christmas raffle proved to be a hit again, with the number of prizes drawn from the generously donated basket overflow stretched to 18. Or was it 20? Yes, the ‘stocking’ this year was not a barrow but a laundry basket. In these times either item could belong to mum’s or dad’s domain. Maybe a duffel bag next year for our much travelled youth members.
What a great surprise to have a sky full of stars when we expected rain – a bonus for the lonely pair of shoes in mid paddock all night.
Some of us slept over in vans, wagons and tents. Quite convenient- Thanks again to Leonie and Gordon. We could be starting a new car accessory trend. Instead of mechanical waving hands at the windscreen we saw (next morning) real live pairs of feet visible past open tailgates.
As the evening raced on we drifted away to our vans, homes and lodgings progressively by age (I’m told), as this guy was one of the first down.
Good fun – let’s do it again.
