Latest Newsletter - 25th February 2007

Chris Skinner, President SCCQ, says:

Since this is my second last report before the meet is held, I would like to thank all the various Studebaker owners from around Australia and beyond who have graciously supported our National Meet.

I am particularly thankful to those who have made the extra commitment to bring along their Studebaker cars and trucks. We all have the highest expectations of this being the largest National concours ever, but...

Newsletter - 30th January 2006

This time last year, our committee was working feverishly at finalising the many details that had to be locked in before our presentation in Adelaide. There was so much to do all at once - negotiating room rates with venues, creating a registration package, organising a raffle car, designing this web site and meet logo and creating a power point presentation.

While all this was happening, we were doing our best keep everything top secret, which is almost impossible within the Studebaker clubs! But it all went together well and I am extremely proud of our committee. Everyone was dedicated to getting their individual tasks finished on time and they did and great job. Thanks guys.

The reaction to the Gold Coast International Hotel has been incredibly positive. Almost everyone who has registered so far has chosen meet headquarters as their preferred accommodation choice, and more than half have chosen the more expensive "Ocean View" or "Executive" rooms. It looks like everyone is in the mood for a great family holiday.

Thanks to Shane Hodby, we already have at least 17 confirmed US6 Army trucks booked for out record breaking display. And all of these trucks have been located within south east Queensland, but word is getting around fast and Army Truck owners from around Australia are expressing their interest in joining the display.

In a two months time we will be announcing the details of our National Meet raffle which includes a Studebaker vehicle as first prize. We are currently finalising the minor prizes that will be drawn along with the car. Books of ticket's will then be distributed to club co-ordinators along with photo's and details of the raffle car.

And don't forget the Swap Meet. We have booked 134 square meters of air-conditioned convention space within the main activity centre of meet headquarters (and additional space is available for larger items if required). We are inviting large and small vendors alike to book their tables now. A swap meet booking form can be downloaded from the National Meet website. This booking form also provides details for advertising space within the National Meet handbook. And don't forget the Swap Meet. For those who have already registered but have not yet booked their accommodation, please remember to use one of our accommodation booking forms. These were designed in cooperation with Gold Coast International Hotel specifically for the use of our members and entitle you and your family to a substantial discount on all room rates for the duration of your stay.

18th April 2005

Hi everyone and welcome to the count-down to the 2007 Studebaker National Meet! Firstly, I would like to thank the Studebaker Car Club of South Australia for holding a fantastic event over Easter just passed. What a beautiful city Adelaide is and what a great event!

It is with great excitment that the committee is receiving all your registrations and continuing with the organisation of the 2007 event. As of the 15th of April, we have already received 45 entries! Perhaps a result of flashy presentations and false promises? This will certainly be a large event and why not? The Gold Coast International Hotel's 5 star facilities can certainly accommodate us all in style.

While for some of you the event might seem a bit far still, just remember how quickly the South Australian meet snuck up on us? The committee is currently busy organising several events, including finalizing the boat cruise and meals for the event, while receiving reports of several new projects already under-way! It will definitely be a superb battle for Top Car in 2007 if the current trend continues. For those of you who think you have seen it all already at an Australian Concours, there might be quite a few surprises in store so make sure you don't miss out!

By now, you should all have visited the National Meet Website at www.studebakerqld.org.au. If you haven't, then the site will surely answer many of your questions and more! You may also wish to visit the Gold Coast International Hotel's website at www.gci.com.au which contains pictures and information on the event's headquarters. Remember to register for the event and then book the hotel through the National Meet Accommodation Booking Form (available for download from the registration page). The club has negotiated a very special rate with the hotel, saving you over $100 per night, which is only available to registered participants.

I hope that you have found all the information you need either on the Website or by asking a committee member. If you haven't, please use one of the many sources of information we have made available. Remember, this National Meet is aiming to make history achieving many firsts! These include providing secure undercover parking, raffling a car, providing the meals and accommodation under 1 roof in a 5 star setting, and hopefully breaking the 6x6 Army Truck world record for a peace-time gathering! So make sure that you invite your fellow club members, friends, family members or any other car enthusiasts you know to join us for this truly memorable event!

Sincerely and with great joy,
Damien Farine - webmaster
