Support for club outings has been stronger than ever lately, so these interesting and enjoyable events should be a great way to encourage all our members to be involved in their club! From the PresidentDecember 7th, 2007As 2007 draws to a close, we can look back on what has been by far the biggest and most important year in our club’s history. Not only have we hosted a very successful National Meet, but we have also trailed a new State Concours venue and attended three major multi-club events, with excellent attendance on most occasions. The AGM saw new people getting involved with running the club and membership continues to grow - although we still have a hard time getting renewals back on time! Thanks to the web site and our increased visibility as a club, we are receiving more new membership inquiries then ever before. A new national chronological listing is currently underway, the first to be published since 2002 and I encourage all members to make sure that any recent changes in their vehicle details have been passed on to our Membership Officer for inclusion in the new book. A lot of rare and interesting cars have appeared in Queensland during the last six months and it would be a shame not to have them all listed. And a big thankyou once again to the Bradford family for hosting another great Maryborough weekend. The organisation of the observation run on Saturday morning followed by lunch at the historic ‘Thebine Hotel’ was exceptional. After breakfast on Sunday, the group divided in two with the boys heading out to Warren Hoffman’s property to inspect the progress of his 1957 Silver Hawk. Warren found his Hawk in a creek bed and has done a fine job of rebuilding it from the ground up. And with 1000 hp to play with (on regular fuel) we look forward to seeing it on the drag strip very soon. Chris Skinner. From the PresidentAugust 17th, 2007From the PresidentOne of the most important aspects of our club is the social calendar and, unfortunately much of our future planing has been pushed aside during recent months while we have concentrated on other projects. Starting this month, there will be a renewed focus on the planning of our monthly activities - whether they are social get togethers, motoring events, or weekends away - and for the first time in years, we have uncovered some new and truly interesting ideas. Looking past our annual Concours, we have booked space for a club display at the Caboolture Historical Village ‘Mega Motor Show’ on the 30th of September. This is followed by one of our three big annual events, the Maryborough Weekend on the 27th – 28th of October. The MaryBorough Weekend seems to get better each year and many are choosing to arrive earlier, on Friday afternoon, to “warm up” before the rest of the group arrives on Saturday. Bookings will be taken at the Concours, or you can contact me on (07) 3324 0024) and I encourage everyone to consider this friendly and inexpensive weekend away. You don’t have to have a Studebaker on the road to participate, and if you let us know, we may be able to find you a ride with someone who does. Just let us know if we can help. Towards the end of this year, we will try again to organize a tour of the Bowden’s vehicle collection. Our previous arrangements had to be postponed due to overwhelming interest from competing clubs. More tours are being scheduled for December & January, with the cost of entry being the prior purchase of certain Bowden’s car care products. This is a difficult event to organize and will require the full cooperation of all members, but from what I hear, it is well worth the visit and never to be forgotten. New member enquiries are becoming more frequent and many of these potential new members are bringing an increasingly diverse range of vehicles into our club. In the last month, we have had enquiries from all over the state with models spanning almost every era of Studebaker production. The future for our club certainly looks to be a very interesting one. |
